Quality Assurance - The 80% of ICS Cybersecurity

Industrial Control System Cyber Security

Abstract: Industrial Control Systems’ end users today have a choice of more than 20 cybersecurity standards. Some of these standards address Information Technology and some Operational Technology. Some are specific to a particular type of industry such as Electrical, Chemical, Oil & Gas, Water etc. Each standard has a gap and no single standard meets the complete requirements of an industry. Vendors have their own Cybersecurity strategies. Consultants have a '6-steps methodology', a ‘7-steps approach' and so on. With lots of confusion hovering around, end users often make decisions only to revert back at the end. There are cases, when things were running smoothly in a plant until a new Cybersecurity measure was implemented. What is the key for success then? In this presentation, building the case on Information Technology’s matured best practices in Service Management (ITIL), Governance (COBIT5) and Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF), Rabbani revisits the often forgotten role of Quality Assurance in making sustainable progress in implementation of Cybersecurity measures.
