Managing the Challenge of Automation System Obsolescence

Obsolescence & Lifecycle Management of Control & Safety Systems

Abstract: Recent ARC World Industry Forums have included daylong workshops and presentations where process industry end users have shared their experiences with managing the lifecycle of older automation systems. In addition, ARC maintains ongoing client relationships with many major process manufacturers who face the challenge of updating or replacing older automation systems on dozens or even hundreds of their process units. These learnings have provided input for the update of ARC’s “Collaborative Process Automation Systems (CPAS)” outlook. This is a document presenting ARC’s vision of the future of process automation technology and markets. This presentation will focus on the results of those workshops and consultations, and discuss the latest update to the ARC CPAS vision. It will also discuss how new technologies and demands will impact future process automation systems and applications.
